Day 74 - Sunday 8/30

Pik-a-stix

They got their Fun Dip since it beat out ring pops in the latest pointless feedster poll.. the hamsters were as excited to get their candy as we were when we saw the poll, meaning not much

Vanessa did her retell loops of her convo last night with James, embellishing to make herself look better and him worse, like she does, and she repeating a few more times how Meg cries too much, in a major pot/kettle situation.. when Vanessa mentioned again that she'd give Julia $10,000 if the plan failed and Julia gets evicted, Big Brother finally stepped in and told her she wasn't allowed to offer cash incentives or bribes

Meg paid a visit to HOH to plead her case again in hope of Vanessa putting up someone that wouldn't guarantee Meg walks the plank.. it was pretty much the same as last night's convo but it dragged on longer, and the results were the same: futile for Meg.. I don't think she and James have been told officially that Julia will be the renom, by the way

More loops followed and very little else except they did their photobooth, this time with directions that they were to do side-eye poses - feedsters gave a collective side-eye at that.. Austin and Liz had another hammock date, on top of their HOH "be my girlfriend" date that was on tonight's show.. it was odd they aired that without Liz's initial reply about Austin's pre-existing girlfriend, especially after Zingbot's zing about that, but they did show a Liz Diary mentioning it so I guess they figure they covered their bases, I don't know

I really don't have much else.. it's gotten to that point in a season where there's usually not a lot to report on.. they're still relatively active this year, but the repetitious loops and Vanessa's apparent refusal to acknowledge or own her game to herself or us have made it tedious.. I think she might get Steve and Johnny to vote out Julia instead of Meg, which could make things interesting, but let's get through the veto meeting first

Day 73 - Saturday 8/29

"For you, Baleigh"

So said James to the camera when he held up the veto he won, dedicating it to his little girl: "For you Baleigh, they tried to take your daddy out but your daddy ain't built like that"

Austin, Liz, Julia competed along with James, Meg, Vanessa, and Johnny hosted with Steve's assistance.. it was the hide and seek veto, where they each hid a veto card somewhere in the habitat and they tore the place up looking for them.. it looked like a bomb had hit when the feeds came back, with furniture and clothing everywhere, and cereal and snacks smashed all over the kitchen floor - in other words, it was also another big big win for Team Ants.. they said it took them three hours, which largely explains the five-hour feeds block, kind of

Seven of them set to cleaning up the place while Vanessa sat alone in her (undisturbed) HOH room, cussing up a storm and crying yet again about her failed plan.. later James put his veto back on and told the cameras "right there baby, let that soak in - safe!" and he told Meg this was the second time Vanessa had put him up "for petty bullshit" - I'm kind of hoping he goes off on her

Vanessa drank her port and held some meetings.. they included some poor-me and some ancient history, and she threw out the idea to Austin and Liz and later Julia that Julia might have to be the renom in order to ensure Meg goes.. she also told Steve that she wouldn't put him up, but she told him and Johnny that it might have to be one of them.. when the backyard opened, Meg and James were the only ones who went out, and they talked about how everyone else was gametalking with Vanessa, and they called some of the scenarios being discussed to the letter

The evening had no group activities again but twins, Austin, Steve plus Meg played a Why Do Guys/Why Do Girls game for a bit that was kind of fun

As Vanessa's wheels turn

Meg wondered if she and James should talk to Vanessa, and James said he'd been talking bad about her and figured he should talk to her before she heard it from someone else.. Meg went up first and said she wants to stay, and Vanessa said she hadn't made her mind up yet, and she'd (already) heard James had been talking about her.. Meg reported to James that he just had to "frickin kiss Vanessa's ass" and up he went

So James went on up and things got good - Flashback 8/29 11.21pm.. she said "four people" had told him he'd been talking about her, and he said it had "come to his attention" that she'd been telling Austin he (James) can't be trusted, and that she holds on to "every little piece," and she's been playing the game too hard - that set her off

She said he'd criticized and insulted her, and upset her, and was incentivizing her to send his closest ally Meg home.. to his credit (and possibly/probably thanks to his training and experience as a prison guard), James stayed very calm and they hashed out most of it, complete with apologies and only a few fake tears from Vanessa and a request he take off his sunglasses

Austin and Liz joined them as they'd gotten to the chit-chat portion of the cycle, and a bit later Vanessa retold to Austin with only a few embellishments.. but as those embellishments came, you could actually see Vanessa checking Austin's reactions and taking them a bit further - it was fascinating really.. they ended it saying they should work with James, many meetings to be held tomorrow with many Words given, and it would probably be Julia as renom.. Austin retold to Liz, and they went up yet again to tell Vanessa Julia would be okay with that

LINES OF THE DAY

James: For you Baleigh, they tried to take your daddy out but your daddy ain't built like that

Vanessa to Austin: What do you think of Julia as a pawn, to guarantee that Meg goes?

Johnny: Let me see what my sloptions are here

James: The thing with Vanessa, she takes something you said, she saves it for 2 weeks, and then she holds it to your ass

Vanessa to Steve: If it comes down to putting Johnny up or putting you up, what do you prefer?

Vanessa: You just literally criticized me to my face
James: I figured I'd just come up here and clear the air
Vanessa: You hurt my feelings
James: I'm sorry Vanessa, you can hurt mine if you want
....
James: My memory sucks, I use GPS to get home
Vanessa: I think I'm losing my damn mind
....
James: I hope you never have to drink pee because it doesn't taste good

Vanessa: Were the girls mad I suggested Julia?
Austin: Yeah, they were weirded out by it, especially Julia
Vanessa: Really?

Steve: I can decide someone's dumb in 5 seconds but I can't decide if someone's smart in 5 seconds

Ratings - Revive-a-Hamster edition

Ratings are Friday's for now, based on entertainment value, give or take

I can't really fault them for the comp ending so fast as it was probably tested and our hamsters just got stupid on it. But the cumulative problems of the ever-growing goofs tally combined with odder and nastier Jeffish segments each week just make no sense, and Zingbot's zings this season bordered on cruel and were simply not at all funny. Have-nots are still going for another week for no reason, the Buzzfeed knockoff lists are uninspired (and impossible to find after they're first posted), and the feedster polls are ridiculous. However, the feeds have remained up and functional far more than any season I can recall, and that's what really matters. Bonus points for Julie tossing her Chenbot aside for a few minutes during Johnny's memorable exit interview. It was so good and unique, like himself, it made 'The Soup' Friday night.

Won: Outback dinner (guest)
He doesn't gross me out like he does many, but I am disappointed in his gameplay.. or am I? His social game is stronger than it appears, and it's easy to forget that with all the venom spewed out here about him on an hourly basis. He's in a solid twosome and fairly solid threesome with Liz and Julia, he's in good standing with Vanessa, and the others don't seem to think any of that's a problem. He also remains not-nominated, even at this late date.

Won: Outback dinner
NOMINATED - WON VETO
He's one of those who lays around a lot but when he's entertaining, he's off the charts. Jamesisms keep coming when I least expect them, and his pranking and Julia-scaring are hilarious and often just what's needed at the end of an exhausting day of feeds.

Won: 1 week Wackstreet
His in-house gameplay and socializing are about on a par with Donny's, meaning he's pleasant enough and usually funny when he says something, but he sleeps and lays low far too much. His Diaries remain highlights of the air shows and he usually knows what's going on, but he usually doesn't act on it. And when he does, it tends to backfire. But he's still there, turning Revive-a-Hamster into Revolve-a-Door.
PS It's very interesting he went to the end of two 'endurance' comps now, and came off right when deal-talking began but before it was finalized.. things that make you go hmmm.

Won: ½ week Wackstreet
I think she's hilarious especially when she gets going with Liz or when James is scaring the bejeezus out of her. Her facial expressions are classic and while she can whine and gripe a lot, it's nothing compared to the whining and griping about her and Liz out here.

Won: ½ week Wackstreet, Outback dinner
See Julia. I do think they're funny when they start bitching together like sisters do, but I'm never a fan of #Slurpydurp on the feeds and she's doing that on a regular basis. But like her slurpmate, she's in an excellent position in there as of now, since she's got both Austin and Julia as Rock Solid Deals. But unlike Austin, others are starting to realize it about her.

Won: Gronk party cruise
NOMINATED
She's cute and makes the best facial expressions, but when she finally started running info back and forth, it backfired on her like it did Becky. If she'd had an angry confrontation with Vanessa or even a hissy-fit or two, it'd be far more fun than propping herself up in her dental chair. But if she did those things, she wouldn't be Meg.

He's been in deep trouble a few times but he's back in good standing again, somehow. As far as I know, he was Vanessa's first Final Two deal but now she's got one with Julia too, and Julia would probably be an easier finals win for Vanessa than Steve. I'd like to see him loosen up a bit more but when he does, Social Cues are often required, so I guess steady as he goes is best for now.

Won: Outback dinner; 24 hours polishing Jackie
HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD
Her game is truly incredible. Most everyone who was on to her is either gone or recruited back into her fold, and she just keeps plowing through and getting her way. Her tactics are extremely hypocritical on the surface, but demanding loyalty and giving of Words is psychologically effective, especially for cabin feverish paranoids. The real problem here is she seems to be lying to herself as well as all of them and us. If she'd show an ounce of "gotcha" or "wow I can't believe THAT worked" it would make a world of difference.

Won: $10,000; Never Not pass; Outback dinner (guest)
She came in with that incredible train/tram story and a good attitude about it, and she called herself 'Basic Becky' which fit well when she talked about recipes, dogs, and her daily tasks and procedures at work. But she proved to be a comp beast and she lived up to her billing as Black Friday Boss when she openly targeted Vanessa. Unfortunately for her, everyone turned tail on that plan and Becky was demoted to the after-Christmas returns desk. She should have gone on a dating show but she gave us some fun with Becky Updates - even Olive Garden got in on that. She can laugh at herself and those ones are always appreciated.

Won: 1 week 6 days knight; 24 hours polishing by Vanessa
She came in as a stuntcast cross-promo opp with Jeff and she was easily the better of that duo, even if she was barely seen for weeks. She had a better grasp of this show and game than he did, and she talked some big talk but didn't get a chance for us to see if she'd put it in action or not. She did her costume week with a good attitude, and she was a good-natured participant in most of their non-game activities. She gave us some behind-the-scenes 'Amazing Race' info which was fun and different. Like Victoria last year, she doesn't need all that fake hair but at least hers stayed in pretty good shape most of the time.

Won: 2,400 battles
She's the type who had Star of the Season potential but she didn't quite make the cut. She was volatile, emotional, controlling, and prone to hissy fits, and she took most things personally. But she was also an unexpected comp beast, especially on the endurance wall, and she wasn't afraid to make 'big moves' even if Vanessa had a heavy hand in most of them. She did her 2,400 battles largely (and surprisingly) without complaint, and she gained some hard-earned respect with that. Her thing with Clay was odd and uncomfortable to watch, and she easily won Death Race 2015 with her curious and unflattering taped-in extensions.

Won: Ireland trip; Outback dinner (guest)
He started badly, calling himself a 'superfan' after being recruited at a basketball game and marathoning a few seasons. He said BB is about making new friends and memories, and he had a problem with lies and backstabs except when he was doing it. He spent most of his time stapled to Shelli and they got a lot of mother/son jokes, but I saw them more as creepy Lannisters, especially when she went on about how like her brother he is. He provided loads of unintentional comedy, weird mouth things and mumbling translations, he peed in HOH shower, and he got out just in time.

Won: 1 week Wackstreet
Another superfan who found out it's easier to play BB from home, he fell into Vanessa's disastrous Renom Roulette wheel and went out earlier than many hoped. He got mouthy about many of them and popped some good funnies, but he laid around most of the time until it was too late. He gave us some of the best reaction faces of all time, especially the night they played squicky truth or dare - he even had a dedicated cam for much of it. He mentioned this site often, usually saying it's 'hard to navigate' so he'll probably never see this.

Won: Nothing
She was erratic and unpredictable, and the random ways she kept them stirred up made for some of the best feeds in ages. And as a bonus, she featured in all the fights, many because the others didn't believe her telling truths. They did buy most of the fibs, and without 'empirical evidence,' but they fell for her wacky gameplay more than twice. She marooned herself in a bed and a dental chair, with some laughs in between, and she got the 2nd ever penalty vote. I enjoyed watching her, and will miss her.

Won: Nothing
I haven't given many empty wheels before their time, and I don't think any of those got them as early as he did. But we've never had such a misogynistic, inappropriate, and unfunny pig before. CBS let him get away clean and that's what it is - I'm just glad to see the back of him.

Won: Power to nullify 3 votes
She wasn't afraid to confront people nor to keep fighting to stay, which was good for us, but didn't help her much. She figured out the twins early but didn't leverage that to her advantage soon or well enough. Her 'game on' fight with Audrey and pantry rant to us were memorable, especially her catch-phrase 'get your life!' She was smart, funny, and volatile. She didn't let us take full advantage of #DaVonneHasADaughter, a hashtag that was too good to be true.

Won: Nothing
He was like a parody of all the former surf boys we've had, with all the worst qualities of asshat hamsters past rolled into one. He verbally beat up on Steve a few times but the primetime version earned him viewer loathing, even if his actoring was lousy. He ranted, streaked, flipped us off, and mostly talked about himself, but he promised to save us all someday through music.

They erroneously said last year that BB16 would have 'the most houseguests ever' but this year they really did, with 17 total after the twins split into separate entities. Now my symmetry for this section is out of whack and I don't know what to put here.

Big Brother 17 FAQ
June 18 was Day 1 move-in. June 24 was CBS premiere, Day 7. Finale will be September 23, Day 98

Feeds are streamed by CBS, and accessible via All Access subscription. Call 888-274-5343 for account help, including cancellation.

CBS shows are Sundays 8pm, Wednesdays 8pm, eviction Thursdays 9pm (Global in Canada).

Big Brother After Dark is on POP (formerly TVGN). It airs Monday, Tuesday 11pm-2am; Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday midnight-2am; Thursday 1am-3am. The aired blocks are recorded earlier on the same night.

The CBS app (by CBS Interactive) will play BB air shows and other CBS shows, but not feeds. Use your browser to watch feeds on mobile devices. The same All Access link used to subscribe will lead to the feeds viewing page if you're already signed up.

Liz and Julia had to survive five evictions in order to play separately as individuals, which they did, with Julia officially entering the game on Day 43. They switched places every few days. They had a limited time in Diary to change clothes, adjust their appearance, and exchange info. The non-playing twin was sequestered in a 'house,' possibly the jury house.

BB17 prizes are the same: $500k for the winner and $50k for 2nd place. Stipend for the others is $1,000 per week again, including pre-show hotel and jury sequester. Recruits or those with established pre-season fan bases might get more.

The habitat has 80 HD cameras (up four) and over 100 microphones.

The recorded in-house announcements are the voice of producer Don Wollman.
