Day 84 - Wednesday 9/9

Groundhog Day

That's Groundhog Day in a Bill Murray way, not Punxsutawney Phil, since it seems like every night they figure out Vanessa but every day they forget about it again

Liz and Julia started their packing, divvying up of cosmetics, and speech rehearsing along with the usual pranking, napping, eating, slurpy-durping, and blood-curdle screaming, which they've been doing more and more lately

As of late Wednesday night, Julia's still going, which is an oddity second only to the rest of them letting the twins separate and play as two plus-a-showmance in the first place.. Julia going instead of Liz was intended to thwart Vanessa, but I think they're all shooting themselves to spite their nose, or something - except Austin of course

Otherwise it was another day of not a lot.. Vanessa ran some loops and did some Steve belittling.. they played Wednesday night Pot Ball, and all six of them hovered over a chess game for awhile - that seemed like a kooky nature documentary, something about hamsters huddling together for security when they sense impending doom

The ants waged a massive onslaught and took the freezer while everyone was busy going after hordes of them in various other (unfrozen) corners.. that's happened before - they've even been discovered embedded in ice cubes once or twice - but it's a rare event in the ant-riddled habitat, and a moment of silence was held for those brave warriors who froze their tootsies off for the greater good of Team Ants.. trust me, they're going to win the season, again (don't tell Vanessa)

Among the other shenanigans of the day, Austin and Julia each paid homage to Audrey's blanket.. Austin did it to scare Julia during a nap, but Julia easily won the style award this time, twirling dervishly around the kitchen, delighting her audience, with her blanket flying in the wind

Day 83 - Tuesday 9/8

Setting the trap

The camera came out and so did their veto comp tutus to set the scene, or something, and Steve wrote his blog and tweets

Following on last night's revelations, Austin and twins discussed their Vanessa problem and decided to lay a trap for her.. Liz was the definite evictee this week until AusTwins realized how hard Vanessa was pushing that, and how it would benefit her more than themselves.. they told her it would be better if Julia goes, to see if Vanessa would keep to her Word to vote as they wanted.. note, she also promised Steve she'd vote as he wanted, and the last I saw from him last night, he was muttering to himself about how he wanted to plant some anti-Vanessa seeds with Austin

Vanessa came back to Austin and Liz later and said she would vote Julia out, on three conditions (never mind her prior promise to vote as they wished).. her three-part demands were as follows:

1) If Austin or Liz wins the next HOH, they can't put up Vanessa at first round noms.. renom would be "okay" (also inevitable, cough) but they'd both have to swear on "something very very meaningful" that they wouldn't vote her out
2) If those noms stay the same, Vanessa would decide whether Johnny or Steve goes.. this was later revised to Steve can go, as long as Austin and/or Liz take Vanessa at Final Four if Johnny remains
3) If she's in Final Three with either Austin or Liz, they would take her to Final Two.. she said she'd understand they'd take each other over her

Meanwhile, they finally got the third of three take-out meals they earned from their August 4 pop culture quiz, so I've removed that one from the goofs tally - they got Panda Express again, plus booze.. twins had a long chat about Vanessa's doings but decided Steve would be a higher priority target because retaliation.. Johnny told Austin he's on to Vanessa's latest dealings, and Steve asked Austin for an appointment to chat later, along with Johnny, so that might be interesting

Well, it might have been interesting but it didn't happen.. Steve and Austin had a quickie chat in the bathroom around 2.15am - Johnny had long since gone to bed, like he does.. they agreed to just keep on as they've been doing.. Vanessa almost caught them, and later Steve saw on the spyscreen how long Austin and Vanessa stayed chatting.. they were joking about him as it happens, but he came to the correct conclusion that Austin probably has the same deal with Vanessa as he and Johnny do

Day 82 - Monday 9/7

Labor Day

Austin used his veto on himself, and Steve put up Julia in his place as expected, so Thursday will be twin versus twin in the nominee chairs.. later Steve said to himself he can't believe he's the one who did it (broke up the twins).. still later, he tried to eavesdrop on Vanessa and Julia laughing it up in the kitchen, then said "I don't trust Vanessa" to himself and headed downstairs to oversee the damage control underway.. wisely

Twins had a few teary moments but they knew this was coming.. Vanessa told them they were "so cute" crying together, and I had to wonder how a comment like that would go over when she cries, especially if she had gone up instead, but it's just so many what-ifs, since that didn't happen

They napped a lot, and got a small evening booze delivery but no take-out food, no cards or Jenga or crafts kits, no USA flag like they have on holidays some seasons, and still no grill - hence no BBQ Smackdown thus far

Vanessa continued her separate Final Three talks with Johnny and with Steve, while continuing to belittle Steve fairly often, both directly to him and to others.. she also told Steve he'd beat her easily in finals since she has so many enemies in the jury house, and that she might approach him afterwards with "a business plan for him to invest in" if he wins.. never mind BB already told her to stop talking about prize money sharing or bribes

Vanessa also told Steve that Da'Vonne had said Steve would "spy on everyone" and provide info to her (Day).. Steve seemed surprised, saying he had wanted to and agreed to work with Day early on, but added he never said he'd be her mole.. when he asked the others about it, they all said yep Day said that, and that's why they were always so suspicious of him being sneaky and scampery

The topic of the two hinky votes at Jeff's eviction also came up, with Steve saying "it was me" but then quickly adding he was joking.. both his and Liz's votes to evict James rather than Jeff at that eviction remain undercover - and one of the many many things I hope will come out on the finale but which probably won't

Austin and twins had a long gametalk and realized that Vanessa, Steve, and Johnny likely had a Final Three deal together, meaning Austin and the remaining twin would be out next unless they win.. they acknowledged it was a good move by Vanessa and once again compared notes about her tactics of crying and "going crazy" when things don't go her way.. later twins talked alone and reiterated they no longer trust Vanessa (which is very interesting, considering Steve's been saying the same thing to himself/us lately)

LINES OF THE DAY

Wednesday
Johnny: Remember color-by-numbers? I wasn't good at those, they always came out wrong.. I feel it should be orange, 3 is an orange number, not a green number

Steve about Jeff: I did not feel guilty about voting to evict him

Tuesday
Les Moonves: This wasn't a great year for casting on Big Brother... Usually you have one or two disappointments. I think we had five or six disappointments.

Julia: Do you have a final two deal with Vanessa?
Austin: Of course

Vanessa to Steve: We might be the stupidest cast of all time, are we? Will we be the biggest joke on Jokers if we keep Liz?

Vanessa to Steve: If I win this fucking HOH, I better have your fucking Word that you will take my ass to Final Three no matter what

Steve to self: Austin's probably got the same pact as both of us, you son of a bitch!

Monday
Julia: I think Vanessa has a Final Two deal with Johnny Mac and Steve, 100%
Liz: I know, I can't trust her.. she's literally trying to be like the Derrick

Ratings - TBA edition

Ratings might be updated eventually, based on entertainment value? I've dropped the ball on these this week, but there's only so many ways I can say the same thing over and over

Won: Outback dinner (guest)
WON/USED VETO ON SELF

Won: 1 week Wackstreet

Won: ½ week Wackstreet
NOMINATED

Won: ½ week Wackstreet, Outback dinner
NOMINATED

HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD

Won: Outback dinner; 24 hours polishing Jackie

Won: Outback dinner
He had the first overlong HOH and his easy personality plus everyone gaming their brains out set him up in a friendly spot with everyone. He was hated by many when he buddied up with Jeff, but James kept it humorous even then. After that, James amped up his pranks, scaring, and candy pelting. He hung out with the less lucky Goblins and they were usually fun to watch, but they spent too much time having fun while the others gamed around them. He'll be remembered for his tinfoil headphones and Swiffer, his quick and unique wit, many Jamesisms and Lines of the Day, making Liz's kitty hat his own, and his devotion to his little girl Baleigh.

Won: Gronk party cruise
She's one of the best laugh-at-herselfers we've ever had, and while she got emotional losing comps and losing her friends, she was mostly upbeat the rest of the time. She was a very good sport about James and Jeff's sexual jokes, as well as with the rest of them poking about her inability to win comps. But she won a cruise in a season without many prizes (thus far), and I think it's safe to say she'll remain friends with all or most of them. She turned laying around into an art form, inspiring me to start a #LeaningMeg hashtag game that became entirely too easy, and her enthusiasm for their non-game games made them fun, as did her cereal scorekeeping system.

Won: $10,000; Never Not pass; Outback dinner (guest)
She came in with that incredible train/tram story and a good attitude about it, and she called herself 'Basic Becky' which fit well when she talked about recipes, dogs, and her daily tasks and procedures at work. But she proved to be a comp beast and she lived up to her billing as Black Friday Boss when she openly targeted Vanessa. Unfortunately for her, everyone turned tail on that plan and Becky was demoted to the after-Christmas returns desk. She should have gone on a dating show but she gave us some fun with Becky Updates - even Olive Garden got in on that. She can laugh at herself and those ones are always appreciated.

Won: 1 week 6 days knight; 24 hours polishing by Vanessa
She came in as a stuntcast cross-promo opp with Jeff and she was easily the better of that duo, even if she was barely seen for weeks. She had a better grasp of this show and game than he did, and she talked some big talk but didn't get a chance for us to see if she'd put it in action or not. She did her costume week with a good attitude, and she was a good-natured participant in most of their non-game activities. She gave us some behind-the-scenes 'Amazing Race' info which was fun and different. Like Victoria last year, she doesn't need all that fake hair but at least hers stayed in pretty good shape most of the time.

Won: 2,400 battles
She's the type who had Star of the Season potential but she didn't quite make the cut. She was volatile, emotional, controlling, and prone to hissy fits, and she took most things personally. But she was also an unexpected comp beast, especially on the endurance wall, and she wasn't afraid to make 'big moves' even if Vanessa had a heavy hand in most of them. She did her 2,400 battles largely (and surprisingly) without complaint, and she gained some hard-earned respect with that. Her thing with Clay was odd and uncomfortable to watch, and she easily won Death Race 2015 with her curious and unflattering taped-in extensions.

Won: Ireland trip; Outback dinner (guest)
He started badly, calling himself a 'superfan' after being recruited at a basketball game and marathoning a few seasons. He said BB is about making new friends and memories, and he had a problem with lies and backstabs except when he was doing it. He spent most of his time stapled to Shelli and they got a lot of mother/son jokes, but I saw them more as creepy Lannisters, especially when she went on about how like her brother he is. He provided loads of unintentional comedy, weird mouth things and mumbling translations, he peed in HOH shower, and he got out just in time.

Won: 1 week Wackstreet
Another superfan who found out it's easier to play BB from home, he fell into Vanessa's disastrous Renom Roulette wheel and went out earlier than many hoped. He got mouthy about many of them and popped some good funnies, but he laid around most of the time until it was too late. He gave us some of the best reaction faces of all time, especially the night they played squicky truth or dare - he even had a dedicated cam for much of it. He mentioned this site often, usually saying it's 'hard to navigate' so he'll probably never see this.

Won: Nothing
She was erratic and unpredictable, and the random ways she kept them stirred up made for some of the best feeds in ages. And as a bonus, she featured in all the fights, many because the others didn't believe her telling truths. They did buy most of the fibs, and without 'empirical evidence,' but they fell for her wacky gameplay more than twice. She marooned herself in a bed and a dental chair, with some laughs in between, and she got the 2nd ever penalty vote. I enjoyed watching her, and will miss her.

Won: Nothing
I haven't given many empty wheels before their time, and I don't think any of those got them as early as he did. But we've never had such a misogynistic, inappropriate, and unfunny pig before. CBS let him get away clean and that's what it is - I'm just glad to see the back of him.

Won: Power to nullify 3 votes
She wasn't afraid to confront people nor to keep fighting to stay, which was good for us, but didn't help her much. She figured out the twins early but didn't leverage that to her advantage soon or well enough. Her 'game on' fight with Audrey and pantry rant to us were memorable, especially her catch-phrase 'get your life!' She was smart, funny, and volatile. She didn't let us take full advantage of #DaVonneHasADaughter, a hashtag that was too good to be true.

Won: Nothing
He was like a parody of all the former surf boys we've had, with all the worst qualities of asshat hamsters past rolled into one. He verbally beat up on Steve a few times but the primetime version earned him viewer loathing, even if his actoring was lousy. He ranted, streaked, flipped us off, and mostly talked about himself, but he promised to save us all someday through music.

They erroneously said last year that BB16 would have 'the most houseguests ever' but this year they really did, with 17 total after the twins split into separate entities. Now my symmetry for this section is out of whack and I don't know what to put here.

Big Brother 17 FAQ
June 18 was Day 1 move-in. June 24 was CBS premiere, Day 7. Finale will be September 23, Day 98

Feeds are streamed by CBS, and accessible via All Access subscription. Call 888-274-5343 for account help, including cancellation.

CBS shows are Sundays 8pm, Wednesdays 8pm, eviction Thursdays 9pm (Global in Canada).

Big Brother After Dark is on POP (formerly TVGN). It airs Monday, Tuesday 11pm-2am; Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday midnight-2am; Thursday 1am-3am. The aired blocks are recorded earlier on the same night.

The CBS app (by CBS Interactive) will play BB air shows and other CBS shows, but not feeds. Use your browser to watch feeds on mobile devices. The same All Access link used to subscribe will lead to the feeds viewing page if you're already signed up.

Liz and Julia had to survive five evictions in order to play separately as individuals, which they did, with Julia officially entering the game on Day 43. They switched places every few days. They had a limited time in Diary to change clothes, adjust their appearance, and exchange info. The non-playing twin was sequestered in a 'house,' possibly the jury house.

BB17 prizes are the same: $500k for the winner and $50k for 2nd place. Stipend for the others is $1,000 per week again, including pre-show hotel and jury sequester. Recruits or those with established pre-season fan bases might get more.

The habitat has 80 HD cameras (up four) and over 100 microphones.

The recorded in-house announcements are the voice of producer Don Wollman.
